Fiolin/violin
Karrieren tok av med prisene han vant for tolkninger av Mozart og Beethoven. Men siden har han utviklet seg langt ut over den klassiske historien, med ry for sine tolkninger av verk av komponister som Schönberg, Korngold og Lutoslawski, i tillegg til sine jazz-improvisasjoner. Nå er han professor ved Mozarteum i Salzburg, spiller med ledende orkestre internasjonalt, og hans over 60 innspillinger spenner bare de siste årene fra Mozarts fiolinkonserter via jazz-fiolinkonserter av komponister som Sabina Hank, Herbert Berger og Friedrichi Gulda til Kodaly Duo med Andreas Brantelid og en fiolinkonsert av Georg Breinschmid. Gjennom en årrekke ledet han ClassixKepton-festivalen, og det svenske kammerorkesteret Musica Vitae. Hans instrumenter speiler bredden i hans virke: en Stradivari fra 1718 og en fiolin bygd av Wiltrud Fauler i 2015.
“Intoxicating Beethoven” wrote a critic about his live recording of the Beethoven violin concerto with the Vienna Academy orchestra, which plays on historical instruments. Recent releases illustrate the breadth of his mastery: including Paganini’s chamber music with guitar, Kodaly Duo with Andreas Brantelid and a Fritz Kreisler CD which also includes a modern violin concerto by Georg Breinschmid. In addition to his recordings of standards such as Mozart, Beethoven, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Wieniawski and Brahms, he has won awards for recording violin concertos by Korngold, Ferrari, Weinberg, Ligeti, Paganini-Kreisler, and Max Reger. Devoting himself to students at the Mozarteum, he also gives masterclasses worldwide, was a professor at the Bern university of arts and chairs the jury of the Mozart competition Salzburg and the Leopold Mozart competition Augsburg. He performs on the ex Viotti 1718 Stradivari made available by the Austrian National Bank, and a violin made by Wiltrud Fauler in 2015.
